Product Faqs

I have a question about a product I ordered. Who do I contact?

Please email us with any questions, we can help you out.

After completion, does Circle of Seven Productions own the Copyright to my video?

As a rule COS does indeed own the copyright to the video. This has to do with getting the majority of the good distribution. You get to use the video any way you like, which should also be reflected in the contract. There's a lot of reasoning behind this, but at the end of the day, to have a buy-out video costs more, as it does for any creative elements from photos to actors. We keep the copyright and we submit the video to television talks shows, news media and other contracted contacts and well as submitting it to appropriate contests that show off our work. It also allows us to add the video to our COS demo DVD which goes out to thousands of people.

We do have a “Buy Out” price that allows you to keep the copyright to the video. Should you use this option we will not be able to distribute to all venues, we will not submit for awards or television and there is an additional fee for this service. A “Buy Out” price means that we have to hold all proof of asset licensing in our database for that entire project. This can be a laborious process so a fee applies. You can speak to a customer service person to find out more.

I want my video formatted for Theater. How does this work?

You buy a screen for a minimum of 2 weeks. But, you have to pay for every screen in a theater. You can't just buy screens for certain movies or only a portion in a given theater. Most publishers don't use this because most screens are $85 a screen with a minimum of 4 weeks. COS is grandfathered in to lower prices and less minimum weeks. If you are interested in this option let your customer service representative know when you place your order.

My book is going to be released soon, can I add my books release date to the end of the video?

We advise against putting a date on the video. BN.com may not take it if there is a date on it and they get an enormous amount of traffic. They say it dates the video and then they have to remember to remove it. If there isn't a date they can just leave it up on their site. If the book is not available at Barnes & Noble then it isn't a problem, but we would hate to see the video not be accepted if the book is selling there.

Can you help me get my video on Amazon.com?

Due to Amazon's restrictions, we cannot upload the video to Amazon for you. We can, however, provide a version of the video in which Amazon will accept. If you have an Amazon Connect account, you will be able to upload the video to your account with the version provided. Your publisher should be able to send it to Amazon for you as well, but you should check with them in advance. A fee for this version may apply. Check with your customer service representative for more information.

How can we get started on my book trailer?

You can start by taking a look at our video products page. You will see a list of the video products we provide. Click on any of the product images for examples and more information. Whether you already know what kind of product you’d like or if you’d like to discuss your options you can email us at info@cosproductions.com to get started.

How far in advance should I have my video made?

Timing is everything. You should get started as soon as possible, but keep in mind that we need a finished and approved book cover for your video. Sometimes book covers change, so check with your publisher to ensure that the book cover you give us is the final, approved one. We recommend ordering your video 3 months in advance to the release date, but you can order it earlier if you have the book cover. We prefer to do distribution of your video one month prior to release for various reasons that we can explain to you when we start your project. For videos ordered with a release date less than 60 days we do require payment in full up front. We do this so that your video is distributed right away upon completion. We have several professional editors and script writers in the COS Network. Once your paperwork has been sent in and payment is received your project is put in queue. Even when COS is busy with other orders we have someone to work on your video. But, if you want a specific editor you may need to wait for him/her to become available. Let us know immediately if you want a particular editor and we can give you a timeline for getting into queue. We have been able to complete a video in a matter of a few days, but some are more involved and require a couple of weeks. We work with you to establish an acceptable timeline for your project.

Can I choose the video editor I want?

Yes. But keep in mind that our editors have clients who only want to work with them because they have established a rapport and like working with that person, so you need to get into queue right away if you have a special request. And you may want to have a second choice in case the editor you want won’t be available in time for your book release.

What happens to my video once it is complete?

COS has a team of professionals who create a strategy for your video. We have over 400 sites to choose from and match your video to the appropriate site/audience. Your video is given special vSEO attention so it shows up prominently in search engines like Google and Yahoo! It is sent to booksellers, libraries and specialty sites that are genre-specific. But, COS doesn't just send your video out. We also oversee it to ensure it meets our standards. A member of our distribution team will check on the progress of your video to ensure it is getting attention. The amount of oversight to your video depends on the distribution package you get, but all videos get this special attention on our main sites. COS participates in the communities in which your video is placed. We don’t just “deliver-and-go” hoping that someone somewhere will watch it. We take an active part in the online social communities where your videos are uploaded. We know it takes trust, transparency and relationship building to help sell books online.

How do I put my video on my website (and what do I do with the embed code)?

My video is not playing at [website name here]! What can be done!?

We are equipped to distribute book video to many different websites. We keep our accounts with them current and will resolve any issues with our accounts. But once the videos have been posted to a healthy account, we are no longer responsible for the video on that site. Some site filters or moderators remove or alter videos as they see fit, and there is nothing we can do about it from our site. Additionally, your computer may not be properly configured for video, which could also be the reason for the broken video.

I can't see the video, or it displays a puzzle piece in my web browser, what's wrong?

You may not have your computer configured correctly for video. Please download FlashQuicktime, and update your browser. We recommend upgrading your web browser to Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, if you haven't already. You may also want to do a Windows Update or Mac OS Update, respectively. For even more video format support, download VLC video player.

What are some of the uses of a book video?

  • Goal fulfillment. Trailers are a tool that you use in your campaign in order to attain certain goals. We help you in determining your goals and then use your video as a tool for you.
  • Video distribution has evolved into an incredible market. User-generated videos are uploaded all over the internet and viewed by millions of people every day. Each of our products has a place in this new medium. According to the type of product, the genre and the purpose of the video as outlined by the client, COS Productions strategically places products in appropriate areas of the internet.
  • Outreach- Appeal to those people who enjoy visual entertainment. The visual entertainment industries such as television, movies, games and even music, enjoy the vast reach that the visual medium can offer. Now, books can enjoy that same outreach through book trailers.
  • Sales and marketing enhancement tool. Get your book video out to sales teams and booksellers by putting it on a DVD or CD Rom, or sending the video online with a link to iFilm, YouTube or DailyMotion. Let them see your book!
  • Press interest - Because book video is new to many media industries you can use your video to attract the press and include in your press kit. As book videos evolve and become more and more accepted as entertainment, many videos will stand out and be identified by the media.
  • B-Roll - This is what many television programs use to play while doing interviews. The author talks and their book video plays in the background. It is an exciting feature that can entice viewers to want to find out more, and can entice television shows to want to pick you up for interviews.
  • Book Signings - Play your video on your laptop or a portable DVD player while you do book signings. Even if you turn down the volume, or turn it off, this visual enhancement to your book can attract more people to your signing table. Can't make it to a signing? You can still be there! Send your DVD or CD Rom to the store to be played.
  • Commercials - Our products can easily be turned into traditional commercials. In fact, we have had many of our products on television, cable and in movie theaters. We also have the ability to help you book media spots if you wish! Just let us know you want this option when you place your order because commercial formatting can affect the entire production of your video.
  • Website enhancement - Have an attention grabbing video on your homepage! We have one client who told us that her web traffic has increased approximately 600% since putting our videos on her site.
  • Soft sell - As more and more people use the internet to shop, buy, and be entertained, etiquette becomes especially important. "Buy my book" can be seen as ad; an enticement to buy. But, "Check out my cool video!" is an invitation to enjoy something with you, instead of buy something from you. Our products can be emailed in a way that doesn't fill up someone's email box, but allows them to see the video from an email link, and then pass the video on to friends. The video can be used as a blog topic, talking about your book, enticing people to check out the book synopsis in video form. All of this drives people to your site, tells them about your book, but in a way that is not seen as an ad or a push to buy something from you.
  • Name Branding - Get your name seen again and again. The more times people see it, the more likely they are to recall it when they walk into the bookstore! You can give the impression of who you are by utilizing book video!
  • Career Change - If you’ve started a new series or even a new genre this is a great way to announce to readers what you’re doing now in an exciting and entertaining way.

When should I distribute my video?

You should distribute your video according to the needs of your marketing campaign.

Normally we recommend you distribute it no more than 30 days in advance of the book release.

Some authors and publishers prefer to distribute the first week of the book release, but we recommend at least 2 weeks prior so that the SEO and word of mouth can build.

Can I use the video wherever I want?

Yes! The video is yours to use where you like for as long as you like.
